So my 1080ti is going over the temp limit of 84C set in afterburner and does not appear to be throttling down at all really once it starts approaching 84C. Does anyone know what could be the cause? Not really sure what other information I should provide here but if I can provide other info upon request.

Thanks.

It shouldn't throttle at 84 degrees. 84 degrees is well within the safe limits for a 1080 card. A good video card can handle a lot of heat. I believe it has to get over 91 degrees before before there is any kind of throttling and 105 is the tipping point on a 1080 according to this link.

I wouldn't worry about 84 degrees. That is no where near too hot. When gaming my 1060 stays in the mid 80s continuously.

Some video cards it won't change as it is locked in the GPU BIOS. Likely Afterburner isn't making it change because the physical hardware has it locked because the manufacturer set it to do so only when it became a problem for the card.

I don't know why if it worked before that it isn't now. Unless there was a software update that changed the way they interact.

But the question still bears....why would you want to throttle sonething that is operating with specs?
