Hi I am wondering if I need to upgrade my power supply for my cpu. Because it requires 90 watts of power. I am running a 300 watt psu and the reason I ask is because I want to buy either a cpu or psu next. But it throws me off when some cpus require more power. Any ? I am fairly New to this. Yes I already checked if the cpu is compatible so that I know. Any help would be appreciated.

CPUs can often consume more power than their associated/official TDP ratings under certain load conditions; be very leery of trying to slap in a 4790K if starting with a 300 watt PSU. This sounds like one of Dell's business machines! (Possibly, their heatsink was designed for the lesser processor as well; if it is a prebuilt, best to check for which processors are officially supported by certain models, possibly due to BIOS and unique mainboard hardware revisions/limitations...

go to pcpartpicker.com select your hardware. and it will tell you how much power it needs. add another 100 to it and buy nearest ratings psu.

for eg you get 269watt as your power consumtion from the pcpartpicker
you should buy psu rating of 350watt atleast.
and do look at review of psu before buying.
