Hi everyone,

My question is how how many watts must my PSU be, I planned this build, linked below.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

So, I have some PSU's in mind:
XFX XT Series 600W 80+ Bronze/500W
Silverstone Strider Essential 600W ES230/ 700W 80 plus
SilverStone ST60F-ESB 600W PSU

I need input on these as I am aware that a power supply unit works best closer to a TDP of 50% of the psu's wattage, like a 300W TDP pc may need 600W power supply. However I also know that going to a higher wattage psu will lead to increased electricity bills. Are these two statements correct? I have a feeling they are not? Just needed some clarification and a helping hand to choosing the most appropriate PSU. Thank you in advance for your help :)

You sent the wrong link thats just to PC part picker website. All of those PSU's that you have listed aren't that great. If you could fix the link I could access it more but you could use https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator to figure out how much roughly it would pull. The EVGA G2 and G3 series are very good, Seasonic power supplies are very good as well, Corsair rmx and rmi are good as well. Pretty much make sure its 80+ Gold rated at least for a good unit.

False, your computer uses only the wattage it needs

if your system needs 225w

a 600w unit will be stressed a lot less to deliver that than a 300w unit

and thus create less heat and noise

you need to include the rest of your components like gpu before someone can recommend a wattage rating

Hey! Thanks for your reply, yes I've searched and found it for around 88 USD xD, not so lucky in my country haha. Is this psu reliable? and only 520W is required for my build?! Do you have any more recommendations?

Does your country have Corsair Vengeance PSUs? If not does it have Corsair CXM power supplies like the CX450M or CX550M?

There is a Corsair CX550M! So this is a good one then; only 550W for my system, I was told around 600 to 650 Watts for this kind of build

I get what you're saying but one question is that pcpartpicker lists tdp at around 364W for a build of this kind. Maybe its 364 when on full load with gaming and other editing work I guess?

pcpartpicker isn't fully accurate. If you click on the lightning bolt is shows power for everything (what it thinks, at least). It usually has the motherboard far too high and some other components it likes to overrate.

Ah i see, so that would solve things i guess but one last question-how long can this power supply last and what signs do I have to look out for to know when this happens?

It has a 5 year warranty. I can't predict the future but I do know that Corsair rates their warranties for 24/7 usage at full 100% load, so I believe it should last you a very good while. When it fails your computer will probably shut down, PSUs have protections so nothing bad should happen when they fail.

One more thing for my system, what about overclocking the CPU + GPU + RAM, will a higher wattage rating of psu be needed then?Higher than 450W?
