So, my family PC has had its cpu fan running at an annoyingly high rpm, and i have been unable to access the bios.

Today i finally had the chance to reset the cmos, but forgot to disconnect the power before taking out the battery. When i realized this, my tired self hurriedly put the battery back in, switched the power supply off, and took the battery back out again.

after a few minutes i re-seated the battery and when i flipped the power supply switch, the pc immediately powered on, however it did not post, there was no response on the monitor, and the power/reset buttons are not doing anything.

i'm at a loss

Well when it comes to motherboards and removing parts while still powered on ESPECIALLY the cmos since it stores all the information needed to correctly work. If you can get no post or no response from the monitor I am 95% sure that you have a dead motherboard.

I did try that a couple times, which is why i was still stumped.
I left the battery out for a couple hours this time and it works now so. yeah. guess it needed more time.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
