Motherboard with 8 Pin + 4 Pin CPU Power - But you only have an 8 Pin, what do you do?

Hello everyone, I was looking to upgrade to 7800X from 4790k.
when I was looking on boards I realized that the Asus X299 Mark 2 have 8pin+4pin CPU Power Connectors and my PSU have only 8PIN (4+4)
the question is if I can connect the board and cpu with the 8PIN only... and if it really worth to upgrade to the 7800X from the 4790K

the connectors are different, and trying to force pcie cables into them is asking to fry the mobo

to answer the OP's question only the 8-pin is required the extra 4-pin should only be for overclocking

It's not worth it to upgrade, the X299 platform is overpriced, runs hot and is overhall shit compared to for example AMD's Threadripper. A Ryzen 1700 would be a great upgrade, or if you're willing to wait a couple of weeks the ThreadRipper lineup would be a really great upgrade.

Not at all actually. The x299 platform is bad value for the money. Atm ryzen is the better option and with threadripper launching soon intels x299 platform will look like an even worse option.
