Choosing a poor thermal paste can negate a significant % of the extra performance you get from a cooler upgrade... best to worse is about 4.5C. Fortunately, the best is also among the cheapest. As you can see here, Shin Etsu has the same thermal performance as AS5 but without the capacitance and curing issues which plague AS5. Its also a lot cheaper at < $4.

Right now, the one product i can point to (outside of liquid metal) is the top of the line grizzly product but its 4 - 5 times more expensive.
