I game. Specifically for Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Here is what I'm running.
Motherboard: 760GM-P23(FX) (MS-7641)

Video card: AMD Radeon (TM) R7 370 Series

CPU: AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor 3.8GHz

RAM: 8 gigs

Now I know I said CPU, however if an upgraded CPU needs to come with something else, I wouldn't be opposed.

My budget is around 250-450 USD. Also I don't know much about computers so if there is something tailored towards CS:GO I'm down.

I get around 100 frames now, 50-80 in gunfights. I want 200+ ideally but will settle for 150+ without a 144Hz monitor.

Last note, if you have a completely new build that would work better, go for it. I just need something to run the game better. I figured that would start with my CPU tho.

Solution
You need DDR4 for any new platform, the only way you can keep your DDR3 is to buy a used intel motherboard and i5/i7, preferably Haswell or Devil's Canyon. Like I said, if you want 200fps+ all the time in CS, you're going to have to get an intel processor, the game just isn't optimized for Ryzen yet, but if you're just looking for an improvement and play games other than CS then the 1400 is a good choice.

Do you think I should go to Ryzen, and on top of that can my motherboard support ryzen processors? I just don't know if everything will work.

Is it cheaper to go to Ryzen then to Intel or the other way around.

Ok so here is what I'm thinking of doing.

Upgrading to a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU
GPU: Radeon r7 370
MOBO: MSI - B350 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX AM4 Motherboard

All I really have to figure out is my RAM situation. I don't really know how to tell what type of RAM I have but I'm willing to bet I'll need to switch.

Really appreciate that answer. I think I'm just going go with an i5 I'm willing to spend a little extra on a new one with DDR4 RAM. At least I can keep my GPU.
