I bought trust 5.1 surround speakers but dont have sound card for 5.1 surround

im about to buy a sound card but is there a big difference in stereo/5.1 surround when gaming?
is it worth spending +- 50$ for one of these?

my pc has the green,blue and pink so i plug in 'stereo option'
i need a card with the orange/yellow and black also to use the 'surround option'
thats what i think i know right

but the question is, is it worth buying that a sound card to use the 'surround option' for gaming?

i have an 7.1 headset but i hate wearing a headset.. so i bought those speakers.
A friend told me it isnt worth buying a sound card to use the 'surround option' becous there isnt a big difference when using speakers.
