i own a MSI GE72 2qc apache and was going to upgrade it by adding a m.2 ssd, as there is one open spot advertised. However, one big restriction has been the fact that the specs page on the Apache says that it can only support a m.2 ssd up to 256 gb. Can someone please clear this up? I really want to know the entire limitations of the m.2 connector. I would only be using it for the OS if that matters at all. I just want to know if this laptop allows me to grab any off the shelf m.2 ssd and plug it in.

Thanks!

Looking on the MSI forums people are using 1tb m2 drives so I don't think that 256gb can be relied upon.

Samsung 850 evo /pro definitely works as does the crucial mx300.

No support for nvme as far as I see so its a no to the new 950/960 drives.

Virtually any sata based m2 ssd 'should' work fine

You can only put an M.2 SSD that's up to 250gb in size.

Chances are if you put anything larger in the BIOS / Windows isn't going to recognize it.

However, I might be wrong as I don't own this laptop but 250gb does sound a little small. Normally the max size is in the TB's
