So, because of the ethereum boom, it seems that the only way I'm going to get a gtx 1070 is to go onto ebay or craigslist. When looking through these listings it seems many people claim things like "oh it's completely new I just opened the box to take the picture" or "oh it's only been used for a week", which seem like lies they tell to hide that they've been using the gpu for a year. Is there a way to see exactly or approximately how long a gpu has really been used?

With the serial number, you can check with the manufacturer for warranty status...how much is left.
If there's only 2 yrs left on a 3 year warranty...he's had it for a year.
If its dusty, but its hard to tell, cause if you use your iphone for a year and you clean it before selling as new, you wouldnt see anything except if you hitted it, like marks or something, but that wont happen on GPU's cause there isnt anything to scratch it, soo look for dust, unless it in box.Its more money friendly to buy used.

Check the serial number with the manufacturer.
Have him show you the receipt.

ah, it's too bad that there's no objective way, I was hoping for some way where you go into the bios and look at total powered on hours or something haha

oh the receipt! That's smart. But what would having the serial number do? How would you use that to see how old it is?
