What is the purpose of amd crimson relive 16.12.2 ? How can I use it?

I just downloaded amd crimson relive 16.12.2 and successfully installed it. I have sapphire Radeon r9 280x vapour-x edition gpu. Now after installing the software, how can I use it? What is the purpose of this software? Does it have any affect on gaming?

It's the driver, it's what makes the graphics card work properly.

16.12.2 is an older version, you should ideally be running the 17.7.2 version.

The first two numbers indicate the year and month of release (so 17.7.2 is from July 2017 while 16.12.2 is from December 2016).
