Right now I'm using a USB wifi adapter and it is extremely unreliable and I can't seem to fix it. I was looking for some PCI-e cards but then realized my only available PCI-e slot is covered by my GPU. I do have one PCI slot and i was wondering if that would be fast enough for today's wifi standards or if there are any alternatives. Also, is there any PCI cards you would recommend?
PCI will be plenty fast enough for WiFi - even an old 33MHz PCI slot has enough bandwidth for Gigabit Ethernet and you're not going to get real-world throughput anywhere near that with WiFi. (Rule of thumb - divide the headline speed, such as 450Mbps, by two and you might get that speed if the router is within a few metres of the PC, there is a direct line of sight between the antennas and there's no interference from other people's WiFi, etc.)
I'd suggest either looking for a card that comes with a separate desk-standing antenna on a cable or getting such an antenna as an aftermarket accessory - the PC's case makes a very good signal blocker so having the antenna(s) stuck down near floor level behind it doesn't do the signal strength any good.
I can't really recommend a card because I haven't used one myself; I don't use WiFi except on my phone - I've cabled up the house so I can use Gigabit Ethernet everywhere. The last card I bought for someone else was a PCIe one and I can't remember what make or model it was (it was several years ago).
