So I'm upgrading my PC. With a £750 budget, I'm upgrading my monitor to a 1080p 144hz monitor (not sure which one yet) and I'm upgrading my CPU and motherboard from an i3 6100 with an H110m-s2h, and I'm planning on either getting an i7 6700k with a z170 or an i7 7700k with a z270. In people's opinions, on my budget, which is the best one to go for?

Also, if anyone out there is feeling extra, can anyone help me choose a monitor that's 1080p 144hz? (I have to stay at 1080p as I have a gtx 1060).

Thanks all.

In terms of value for money, you'd be better off just keeping your current mobo, upgrading to a 7700(K) (make sure to update the BIOS first), or 6700(K) if you can find it for significantly cheaper, and putting the extra money towards a future GPU upgrade (or maybe your monitor).

The 6700k and the 7700k are essentially the same processor, the 7th gen is newer, clocked slightly higher, and has added features with the z270 motherboard. For example, if you have a 6700k overclocked to the same exact speed as the 7700k, and they are both in a Z170 motherboard, they will perform identical. Since they are going for about the same price, I recommend the 7700k just for the newer chipset and features. I am not familiar with all of the new features but it includes things that may be irrelevant to you such as intel optane and 4k netflix streaming.

If your not going to overclock then you can update the BIOS on your board and get the 7700K without buying a new board. If your going to overclock then get the Z270 board.
For the 2 processors if you overclock them to the same speed they have the same performance.

As in ddr4 ram? And I have a hyper 212 evo which is a fairly good cooler from what I've heard. I've also heard a lot about just going for the i7 due to games demanding more cpu like crysis or battlefield or mmo's which I play, and I would also like to start streaming a bit.

So, my budget (and I won't be using intel optane ot 4K Netflix streaming), would you recommend going for the z170 (as it saves me about £50) and then the 6700k (as that saves me about £10 too)?

From a money saving perspective, yes. The added features you get with the new chipset are most likely not worth $60, and the performance between 6th and 7th gen may not even be noticeable.
