Hey guys,

So I have a problem with adding RAM onto my X79A-GD45(8D) motherboard.

I have two RAM sticks already installed - G-Skill (4GBx2) Ripjaws X DDR3 2133 Dual Kit. One in slot 1 and another in slot three as my motherboard manual tells me.

I'm trying to add a third, just a spare out of a 16GB kit (4x4GB). My board can run triple channel apparently, and I've put it in the correct slot(s), but when I start up my computer is just gets stuck in an endless reset cycle. All the sticks are rated to run at 2133, but I've only got them at 1600 in the BIOS.

Any idea what's up?

Solution
They sell kits in multiple sticks for this exact reason. Higher end memory is less likely to work mismatched than stock stuff. That's why it works at 1600 but not 2133. Perhaps if you bump the voltage up a bit (if not already 1.65v) or loosen the first timing they'll all work together at 2133
