I have At&t U-Verse Internet, I want to use my own modum & not rent from At&t

I am wanting to purchase my own modum router.Right now, I am using the Arris NVG510 Modum At&t tech support agents says I can purchase my own & it will work & some At&t agents says I have to rent the modum from them. I am tired of paying At&t over $120.00 a year to rent theirs. Someone please help me please I will be very thankful for you help. I have At&t U-Verse internet.

I want to purchase my own modum router. I am using the Arris NVG510 modum router with At&t U-Verse internet. I am tired of paying At&t over $120.00 a year to rent theirs. -- Some At&t tech support agents say I can purchase my own & it will work & some tech support agents says it will not work. I have a print-out of a chat session & that At&t chat person said for sure that I could purchase my own & it would work. -- Please anyone, I need your help on this -- I NEED A LIST OF MODUM MODEL NUMBERS THAT WILL WORK WITH MY AT&T DSL U-VERSE INTERNET.
