Hi all,
First - I'm going to post my current spec:
- Graphics - AMD Radeon R7 250 2GB RAM 800 MHz clock.
- Processor - Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz
- RAM - 8GB
- ASUS Z97-AR
My problem is this - I downloaded RUST today from Steam and on playing found it to be un-playably choppy. I literally brought the graphics settings down to "Potato" (their classification, not mine) and it was still relatively slow to respond.
My hunch, based on the above spec, is that I need to update my graphics card. I'm not completely unaware from a technical point of view and appreciate that, largely speaking, more money == better quality. But to what extent is that true? I had my eye on this for example:

But can I go cheaper in order to play the majority of games? Is it the case that it's better to invest right now in a better card so it will last longer, or can I go slightly cheaper and not have to worry for a few years?
Or will I need to update more than just my card, e.g. do I need more RAM? Crucially, is my motherboard even compatible with today's GPUs (and how would I find this out without cracking the PC open).
Would appreciate any feedback/advice from people who know a little more than I.
