I need advice on how to upgrade my PC

Hi all,

First - I'm going to post my current spec:

- Graphics - AMD Radeon R7 250 2GB RAM 800 MHz clock.
- Processor - Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz
- RAM - 8GB
- ASUS Z97-AR

My problem is this - I downloaded RUST today from Steam and on playing found it to be un-playably choppy. I literally brought the graphics settings down to "Potato" (their classification, not mine) and it was still relatively slow to respond.

My hunch, based on the above spec, is that I need to update my graphics card. I'm not completely unaware from a technical point of view and appreciate that, largely speaking, more money == better quality. But to what extent is that true? I had my eye on this for example:

http://www.ebuyer.com/752919-msi-geforce-gtx-1060-gaming-graphics-card-ebuyer-com-gtx-1060-gaming-x-6g?mkwid=s_dc&pcrid=51482416259&pkw=&pmt=&gclid=CjwKCAjw8IXMBRB8EiwAg9fgMCSxpZtVCmPV2OZGMLlwqLPkZB_2sf4YN3ety-PrIXD_zdzYK9dVlBoCdCYQAvD_BwE

But can I go cheaper in order to play the majority of games? Is it the case that it's better to invest right now in a better card so it will last longer, or can I go slightly cheaper and not have to worry for a few years?

Or will I need to update more than just my card, e.g. do I need more RAM? Crucially, is my motherboard even compatible with today's GPUs (and how would I find this out without cracking the PC open).

Would appreciate any feedback/advice from people who know a little more than I.

With only 8gig of ram, Windows does a lot of read/write to your disk,
thus slowing all the rest.

Also a 1060 or better would certainly help a lot.

So I would up the memory to 16 gig, and get a 1060 or better with at least 4 gig
of memory, it all depends at what resolution and what games you intend to play.

You can try downloading msi afterburner and checking the gpu, cpu and ram usage while playing the game you want to run better

Usually 8gb of ram is enough if you dont have much background programs
