My system specs are as follows: msi 970 mobo
650 evga psu
16 gb ddr3 1333 memory
gtx 970 sc a.c 2.0 gpu
phenom 2x6 1090t cpu

I have an old Hanns-G 28 inch 1080p hd monitor right now, but i want something to crossover into the future and be able to run most games prior to 2017 on ultra or high settings at 60 fps. Can it do it?

Thank you for your time.

I had 970 SLI powering my 1440p monitor. And in a few games like Witcher 3 and Far Cry 4, they only averaged 65FPS on max quality settings. Long story short, there are very few games you'll be playing at 60FPS on a 1440p monitor with a single 970 unless you really crank the quality levels down. Average across the board DX11 and DX12 games of today and the past few years is around 45-50FPS (basing that on recent Guru3D GPU review benchmarks).

it is not good enough for 1440p

you want a gtx 1070 with a proper cpu, either ryzen or intel setup
