Hey I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with an issue I'm having. My PC freezes when I play certain games or try to install certain things. My computer has frozen during the installation of some games, one of them being League of Legends, and my computer freezes when I play certain games. The main game I play is CSGO and I can play that for hours and not have this problem. I was playing Fortnite with my friend and my computer froze twice in a couple minutes of playing.

PC Specs: Intel i& 3770k
Nvidia 970
8 gigs of RAM
1 TB HDD raided with a 64 gig SSD - I chose to do a Intel Rapid Storage Technology build so the SSD accelerates the HDD.

My friend suggested getting a new graphics card to see if that's the problem. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I do plan on doing another PC build in the near future, but I'd like to fix this problem for now. The PC I currently have is around 4-5 years old.

Solution
Most likely your issue is two or three-fold.

IRST is bad.
I suggest getting a decent 128GB SSD at the very least and doing a proper clean install of windows on the SSD itself. Even better get at least 250GB and put Windows and your favorite games on it.

8GB is not always enough anymore.
Your Ram is likely getting used up (eventually) during long gaming sessions or while playing something with poor memory management. It's likely that your RAM is being taken up/used and then the OS tries to use the pagefile which is screwed up because of IRST.

Your HDD (1TB).Let's be honest, it's probably not the best.
HDD are getting phased out. Two three more years and I think you won't see them on new mid-high range PCs at all except as a second...

HDD are getting phased out. Two three more years and I think you won't see them on new mid-high range PCs at all except as a second drive. If you don't have a 7200 RPM WD (Western Digital) or Seagate you would do well to start looking into the purchase of a large capacity (500GB or more) SSD. At the very least get a decent 7200 RPM drive if you don't have one already.

I seriously doubt that the issues you are describing are related to your GPU. Your GPU would have absolutely no impact on installing a game or program in any way. Only having 3.5GB of VRAM is not going to help you in the future but with the games you mentioned I doubt that it will be much if any limitation to you any time soon.

My fix would be upgrading to a better HDD or even a SSD which is significantly faster. Having a bad hard drive with not great RPM can lead to freezes and crashes as the hard drive cannot read and transfer files quickly such as the map etc
