Hi Ive been experiencing severe ping spikes that range from 200-2000 ms while playing League of Legends. I can only play on a wireless connection due to the lack of ethernet ports located in my home. I also live with 2 other family members which may be a factor, but im not sure. These spikes happen almost every game making it almost unplayable. I have talked to Riot Games Support, but they were no help.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, I have an Asus RT-N66U router and an ARRIS Surfboard modem.

I have looked into the problem a little and found that it is triggered by a massive rise in packet loss thus creating a domino affect throughout the further nodes that i am connecting to. The packet loss starts between my PC and my router which is very strange since usually this connection is very stable, <1 ms. I find that when I restart my game that it will occasionally fix the problem dropping my ping to around 40. I dont know if that is a coincidence or what but i really want to fix this problem so i can play in peace. Thanks!

Consider buying powerline network devices so you can avoid the wireless. This is a extremely common issue on wifi with games. Almost everything except games tolerates wifi well. There really is no fix it is one of those fundamental things on how wifi works an how games are designed to keep your machine in sync with the server.

There is a slim chance you are exceeding your internet bandwidth with the other family members. That is somewhat fixable but not really. You would need a router with fairly advanced QoS. Still it is not a magic fix you are in effect saying my game is more important that what you are doing so you should not use the internet for what you want when I am playing games. This is not really a technical problem you need to have a agreement before you implement limitations.

I still suspect it is purely a WiFi problem and that is only "fixed" by not using wifi.

Thanks for the answer! I just purchased a powerline networking kit from amazon and i will bring back results. If that does not solve the problem i may need more assistance.
