Core i3-8300 4C/8T 4Ghz, Intels answer to Ryzen 3

Solution
But AMD needs to have more physical cores at same/lower prices because of their lower IPC to stay competitive.

Also the Athlon 900 series is still based on the Excavator architecture, which means they have a really bad IPC and are dirt cheap to produce for AMD. Don't think it can get past a modern Pentium.

I also thought 4C/4T is most likely scenario for i3, but this is the second time rumor of 4C/8T has occurred. First one was from MB manufacturer, I think. I'm starting to believe AMD has taken Intel by surprise, which would be very odd, given all publicity around Ryzen. Empire might just strike back in full force now. God knows they have the means to do it, if they choose to.

It would mean an i3 would be enough to run a 1080 Ti. Lol. It's really bothering me because I just bought my 7700K a couple months ago. First new and expensive CPU I've bought. I guess the new socket will help the old i7 keep its value at least somewhat.

It's not likely that an i3 will have more threads than an i5.
