7700k 5ghz with Kraken x62 high temps

I recently bought a new pc and NOCTUA NT-H1 thermal paste, but then i realized kraken had pre-applied thermal paste so i decided to go with it.

Is my temps okay, or should i wipe off pre-applied thermal paste and change it with the NOCTUA NT-H1 i bought.
Would i get better temps then ?

so i redid the thermal paste now and changed the pre applied kraken x62 paste and replaced it with noctua nt-h1 thermal paste. and my results so far on idle is more stable. its not jumping as much it did before. i used to jump between 35-45.

But now its rarely going over 40. And its stable 34-36c on idle. I just ran GTA V on ultra with 50c cpu temp. before i had around 60-70 and sometimes above 80 so i got warning in CAM app.

i7 7700K are known for temperature large spike issues and the only way to make them run cooler (especially with your overclock at 5ghz) you need to delid the cpu and replace the intel TIM with a quality thermal paste. The Kraken X62 is still just an AIO so it can only do so much (just a bit better than a large air cooler). Your temps are fine but what games are pushing the CPU to 84C? That should be around the max temperature with such an overclock while stress testing.
 


I suggesting lowering your OC to 4.8-4.9ghz (or as much as it takes to lower the voltage a bit). I suggest that you OC with offset voltage (or adaptive)- not fixed voltage or motherboard OC profile. That way you can find the sweetspot for your CPU.

P.S. I have an i7 6700K OCed to 4.6ghz at 1.3V usually, 1.344V in certain situations. (+85mv Offset) . I can hit 4.7ghz stable (haven't tried more) but that would require me to push the voltage to a max of 1.392v which I don't find comfortable regarding temps on my beQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3 (I would hit around 80-84C while stress testing as opposed to a max of 72-75C now).
 
The temps sound actually ok. If you are running a 5.0GHz overclock then temps are gonna jump a lot. The temps that you reported are what I had when I ran my 7700k at stock with a 140mm air cooling cpu cooler.

But as someone mentioned. Delidding the 7700k and replacing the TIM will lower temps. It helped to drop my gaming temp by 10-15C. If you aren't willing to do so then I'd run the 7700k at 4.8GHz. Do you really need the extra 200MHz?

do you think it would help to use NOCTUA NT-H1 paste instead of the pre applied? i hear from preople it can lower the cpu temps significantly. and some even say they got 30c lower than before. so im thinking of wiping it off, and apply NOCTUA NT-H1 paste instead.
 


That paste is one of the best. However, it won't drop the temps that much.....and I don't believe that someone got a 30C drop simply cuz of cpu cooler paste choice.

However, it can't hurt to try replacing the paste with the Noctua one. It is good paste and at the same time you can check how well the old paste was spread.

I think you set the cooler better. Difference in paste isn't massive like what you are seeing. But it sounds like you have fixed your issues....awesome!
 


Yep definitely looks like a slightly impropely seated cpu cooler. Glad the issue is fixed.
