Hi. I have a Netgear AC1750 model R6400 that I'm not using right now. I'm looking for an external HDD for backing up stuff on a network. So far the options that Netgear offer are not so easy to find USB HDD

•Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 1.5TB 3.5” / PN: 9ZC2A8-500
•Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB / PN: 9KW2AH-502
•Toshiba USB 3.0 1TB / Model: HDTB110AK3BA

Do anyone has a suggestion for my issue? It should be portable because of the power supply. Not to expensive. Of course it has to be compatible with the router.

All Routers should work with most USB-compliant external flash and hard drives.

Remember though, an external HDD + Router, is still just an external HDD. There's no redundancy factored in. So if you're looking for a network backup solution with redundancy, you might want to consider a NAS configured in RAID.

'All Routers should work with most USB-compliant external flash and hard drives'

U must be joking! Plenty modem-routers have usb socket but support usb drives poorly. With The Huawei HHG2500 and Linksys x6200 no matter what type of drive I plug in, the drive light flashes continuously (not good for the drive). If looking for a solution which works, I have found TP_Link_TD_W9970 or Technicolor_TG589vac plugged into 2Tb ntfs formated 2.5 portalbe usb drive work OK. Funnily enough, using similar drive but fat32 formatted, causes drive light flashing again. Basically if u buy modem-router with usb socket u don't really know how well it will work with usb drive. Something, maybe reviews should focus more on.
Best regards
