Does the Gateway FX6801 support Gulftown CPUs?

Hi everyone, a friend of mine has an old gateway gaming desktop, the FX6801 to be exact, and he asked me if it supported the 6 core i7's like the i7-970 and up. I didn't know so I turned to this forum. Does this motherboard have support for hex core Gulftown i7's? Thanks.

He'd be going from a Bloomfield to a Gulftown CPU. He has the right board for that upgrade, and the socket and the buss speeds are the same. The only issue would be that the Gulftown is over a year newer and may require a BIOS update (if available) for the i7-970 to be recognized. That I can't answer.
Gateway used to be a pretty solid manufacturer, but they seem to have all but disappeared lately.
