Black Screen after Logging in Windows 10

I want to paint a complete picture of my problem, so I want to apologize in advance for the length of this post.

I bought this computer from a guy I know personally. This build is slightly less than two years old (put together in September, 2015), and here are the specs:

CPU: Intel - Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

GPU: EVGA - GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card

Motherboard: Asus - Z97-A/USB 3.1 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory: Kingston - HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory x2 ((32 GB total))

Primary Storage: Samsung - 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Secondary Storage: Hitachi - Ultrastar 7K3000 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Case: NZXT - Guardian 921 RB ATX Mid Tower Case

I bought this computer in late June of this year. It wasn't wiped or anything, so I wiped both drives and reinstalled windows. I also updated the motherboard BIOS and did all of the general updating procedures one does when setting up a new PC. I downloaded all of my steam games (this computer was bought to play video games on), as well as all of my regular applications and programs. I preformed the standard stress tests (Prime 95, Furmark, Unigine Heaven, Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, and Memtest 86+) with no issues or errors on any of them.

The computer worked great and I had no issues at all for around 3 weeks. After about three weeks, I was playing a game of Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (I had already had about 25 hours in it with no problems), when all of a sudden my display seemed to shut off. I could still hear all of the game's sounds, and all of the fan lights were still and and the fans were blowing, so I assumed that the rest of the computer was still working. I tried to wake up the display, but it seemed that it was just stuck. I ended up having to manually shut down the computer via the button on the case. I wrote it off as a fluke, turned my computer back on, and it worked as it always had. For the rest of the night (like three hours of gaming), the computer had no issues.

The next day, I was playing video games again and about 30 minutes into gaming, I came across the same issue again. I manually powered off and then on my computer to get the display to work again. This problem gradually kept getting worse and worse. I stopped getting this issue when playing video games, and started getting the issue when doing random things on my computer -- writing in google docs, watching YouTube, etc.. This frustrated me to no end, as I had just recently purchased this computer.

Before I start telling you about the fixes I tried, I want to say that I monitored the CPU and GPU temps throughout this whole time, and that they were never above 60 for the CPU and never above 80 for the GPU.

I researched this issue for quite some time, and did every fix I could think of (and fixes other people with similar problems have suggested on various forums) from a software standpoint. I reinstalled windows, reinstalled drivers, underclocked my video card, ramped up the fans on my case and video card, and even re-flashed the BIOS on my video card. All of the "solutions" didn't work, and all resulted in me still getting this same black screen/ no display issue.

I then went on to try hardware fixes. I tried reseating my RAM, unplugging and replugging in all of the power supply cables, and clearing the case of any and all dust. I took out my video card and replaced it with an old GIGABYTE Radeon Rx 460 OC Windforce edition (this is the card that is currently in the computer), and I thought I had the solution. For about a week, my system had no problems whatsoever. In that time, I RMA'd my 970, thinking that all would be good when I got my new card back. The bad news is that after a week of the 460 being in there, I started to have this problem again. It started with one black screen here and there, and now it has developed into a problem that occurs almost every time I try to load up the computer.

When I load up my computer now, it usually works as usual until I try and login to windows (it is password protected). Once I press enter after the password has been entered, the computer will black screen and I will manually have to shut it down (occasionally it will restart on its own). This occurs about 70% of the time when I try to boot up my computer. Another 20% of the time, windows will try and do it's automatic repair process. The remaining 10% of boot-ups will result in the computer working as intended-- until I try and load a game or even just randomly when browsing the internet.

As a side note, I am not great with windows event viewer, but I have not been able to decipher anything meaningful from them. Nothing saying video drivers have failed or anything similar that I have seen others find.

I am extremely frustrated that I cannot solve this problem, so I have come to this forum for help. If I had to guess, my power supply is going bad, but I don't want to believe that because it is a good power supply and less than two years old. I also don't have any way of testing if the power supply is good or not, as I don't have a spare one that is anywhere near enough voltage or quality. Suspecting that it is something power-related, I have tried various power outlets and surge protectors as well.

I would appreciate any and all help, thank you very much in advance.

I tried switching ram into various slots, and that didn't seem to change anything. I've completed both memtest 86+ and the memory test built into the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility previously and I've had zero issues. And yes, I install windows on the SSD.

I am using a different graphics card currently (GIGABYTE Radeon Rx 460 OC Windforce edition), as laid out in my original post, although it was in a block of text so it would be easy to miss. I have tried using the CPU graphics before, and that didn't change anything either.

I have a two monitor setup, one using DVI-D and the other using HDMI. When this error occurs, both screens go black. I have used a different HDMI cable, same problem. I haven't used a different DVI-D cable, however, because I don't have another one of those laying around. I believe I am using windows normally, but if you could explain what I need to change about my Windows, I will try that fix as well.

Also, I have tried multiple different power cables, so I don't believe any of the cables to be causing the issue.

try just using one monitor

not swapping the ram alone, I mean testing the sticks individually to see if you can make it crash like it does, or if you can't because you found a stick that works.

Mixing kits of Ram, EVEN OF THE SAME MODEL can have problems. (also you don't need 32gbs of ram for gaming of any kind)

It could be the CPU, but there's like no way to test that without swapping it out. I would say your OC for it could be the problem, but it doesn't seem to be OC'd.

sydneyblue203: I have tried using one monitor (both HDMI and DVI-D, on both monitors)

James Mason: It took me awhile, but I just tried it as you suggested. No combination of RAM/Slots afforded a solution. I don't overclock the CPU, but I also don't have another CPU to swap and try out.

You can try reformatting on a different SSD
