I'm not IT person so I may need your technical advice here.
Just for my curiosity, would it be possible that many (if not all) computers in the world be all rig up to do a combined computing power for let say particular computing task?

There is no real way to "rig" them up together in order to perform a task, the latency would easily bring the whole system down.
However, there are things such as Folding At Home that use combined computing power to perform a task (Simulated protein folding).
