Hello. I am back with more problems. I hope this isn't long winded. I've looked online for hours pertaining to my problem hoping someone had a similar problem and solution.

I have;
Cpu: I7 3770
Mobo: Msi h61m-p31 G3
Psu: coolmax 500w (cu-500b)
Ram: 2x8gb trident x
Ssd: mz-7pc128d
And Zotac GeForce gtx 970 that doesn't want to play along with that system
Doesn't display from Mobo vga nor gpu dvi-d/-I/HDMI
Everything boots perfectly without the gpu.
I've tried disabling the pcie in the bios to boot through the Mobo so I can install the drivers that won't install without hardware installed
I was beginning to think the gpu was bad.
Some people suggested many things I've tried. One was to test the graphics card in another system
Well.. It works and displayed through vga successfully. first try too.
On a;
Cpu: Core 2 duo e7500
Mobo: h-ig41-uatx? PBLLB0LD6ZO1MJ?
Psu: thermaltake 430w (xp550 np)
Ram: 1x2gb Samsung

I can't find a solution and I've run out of ideas. I may have left out something ive attempted

Ok, so, you've gotten everything to work, without the card? 2 possibilities that are left. 1) the slot is bad, and 2) the pcie cable from your PSU isn't getting the juice to the card(meaning a bad PSU). Thing is, I've never come across a situation, myself, where the card's only getting juice from the slot. I don't know how much function you'll get from GPU in that circumstance. It's possible that the card would still get enough power to at least send a signal to your monitor in simple tasks.
Part of why I'm sending this reply is in hopes of getting someone else to read this and possibly get an answer to that second of the possibilities. Nonetheless, if you have a buddy, who could lend you his gpu for about 25 minutes, you could...

Wow quick reply! Thank you
It's an matx board with just one slot
I forgot to mention that I was using an i3 3220 and an Asus 1gb 7750 gpu about 2 months or so ago on the same board.
Could it have stopped working since then?

Do you still have that card? If you do, then plug it in and test. Let's see if the slot is good.
If the slot is good, while you have that old card installed, un-install all your video drivers. Does that old Radeon card have a PCIE power plug?

PC troubleshooting 101.

Thank you by the way. I appreciate the help! :) I came back to it after work today with some of your messages in my head and thought of an obvious test I could have done.
I switched the older system's psu with the 500w and booted up just fine.

I suppose the only things I can do is try a new motherboard or a friend's gpu?

This question is for anyone that may have gone through the same thing or helped with something similar and I missed something

Did it boot up with the 970 installed? If it did, then we're down to the mobo's slot being bad, or a something in the bios. Do you have the latest bios for that mobo?

Yes the older system booted up with the new psu and vga through the 970.
Bios version/date: American Megatrends inc. V2.2881, 5/10/2012
Smbios version: 2.7 (I don't know what this is or if it's needed)
I don't see the bios version being an issue if the older system can use it just fine

Ok, doing a quick look at MSI's website for that mobo says you have the latest bios. In regards to bios, one never knows, I've seen computers do some very strange things, considering all they are is a device that processes ones and zeros.
Well, if you can borrow a GPU from a buddy, that's the last step to troubleshooting this. I'm not sure if you want an outside GPU to work or not. If it works, then you've got something going between that particular card and the mobo. If the GPU doesn't work, that's more straightforward, but requires you make a decision about replacing a mobo, building new, or how exactly to proceed(finding a new mobo for Ivy bridge may not be possible, you might have to go second hand). Ok, after writing what I wrote previous, I went and did a search on PCPartspicker.com, you can still get mobos for that cpu(your CPU is still a good chip, more than enough for high end gaming).

I didnt think my Mobo bios would the newest after seeing the version and date.
I ordered a second hand p8z77 Asus board a few days ago(just after I started having issues. Received yesterday) just in case because the card, cpu cooler hyper Evo 212 and Asus wifi card we're just a few millimeters from each other and it was uncomfortable.
I cannot find my original atx case so I'll have to test the Asus board build on a box.
The most uncomfortable thing about a new motherboard for me, is just reseating the CPU cooler. I loathe it with passion.
Tomorrow: check to see if a friend of a friend has a gpu they'd let me check. If not I'm immediately testing the asus board
Unless there's something in bios I can do
Thank you for your continued support
