OK, so I updated an older ASUS Phenom II mobo, as I was giving it to my dad who will just use it for the web. I used the ASUS update in Windows XP compatibility mode and about 2/3 through the writing mode, the PC blue screened and now won't POST, no crashfree utility either. The board is out of warranty tho

Never update the BIOS in Windows, not even in real XP. Why not use the flash utility right in the BIOS (EZ Flash 2)?

As it is, look in your manual for CrashFree BIOS 3 to recover the bricking. You'll need a USB stick. If that doesn't work you can order a BIOS chip with the latest BIOS on it for around $15 and solder it on.

First off the BIOS Chip is removable, and I followed the manual, and even used the CD which should activate CrashFree BIOS 3. From what I heard the WinFlash program overwrites the CrashFree section of the BIOS. Since then I only update the BIOS in the BIOS. Sorry about that, but I think I learned my lesson here, never WinFlash, threes so much that can go wrong.
