I am very tight on budget and i need a good cpu for renderings in AE and others. I have chosen i7700 kaby, though initially, it was i5 7500 with z270 but i need to sacrifice on one., so i chose the motherboard. Any suggestions as to why and why not my choice is good? full config will be - 2tb WD 7200rpm, 8gb ripjaws, 550watts corsair psu, corsair liquid cooling(~$60-100). I will be upgrading after a year ofcourse.Right now, its bare minimum for me, do something hat can keep me going for another 2 years will be good if any1 can suggest better alt. Thanks

If you don't already have any of the parts, consider instead going with an AMD Ryzen CPU - the only things you'll need to change are the motherboard and CPU, and you can remove...

You do not want or need a water cooler. Scrap that money to get a board that will either work with your cpu ,b250, not h110

Or.if you really want to do some CPU rendering a r7 1700+b350 board will smoke a 7700 in that arena, and itll be within your watercooler price of the 7700 build

ryzen cpu

for work related tasks like yours ryzen is the best choice

If you don't already have any of the parts, consider instead going with an AMD Ryzen CPU - the only things you'll need to change are the motherboard and CPU, and you can remove that liquid cooler too, you won't need it even for the 7700. Another thing you would want to consider is fast RAM, as Ryzen processors benefit from fast RAM. Get at least 2666 MHz RAM, if not higher than that. Don't go over 3200 though, because most AM4 motherboards can't overclock RAM all that well.

So my recommendation for you would be this system:

CPU: Ryzen 7 1700/ Ryzen 5 1600 if you can't afford the extra cost(the 1600 would still annihilate the i7 in rendering)
CPU Cooler: Stock
Motherboard: MSI B350 Tomahawk
Memory: high speed 8 GB/16 GB kit from brand of choice
Storage: the one in the original post+ an SSD
Video Card: If you won't play games on the computer at all, get any cheapo graphics card, just because Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics. If you do wish to play games, you'll have to mention a budget and your monitor config.
Case and power supply: Whatever you planned on going with initially.

The two Ryzen processors have more cores than the i7 7700, which helps you in getting much better rendering performance for lesser costs. Both CPUs come with a capable stock cooler, and the motherboard will allow you to overclock either CPU to a minimum of 3.6 GHz, most likely something in the 3.7-3.8 GHz range.

Due to differences in the architecture of the processors, Ryzen processors benefit from faster RAM, unlike Intel processors, which is why getting at least 2666 MHz RAM is recommended.

oh... silly me!! and yes, thats a better solution than my i7700. and one thing that kept me away from Ryzen aka amd, was because there is not many users around, mostly intel. my question is.. is it dependable? are you using amd?

Unfortunately I really don't keep my computer up to date right now, but I can assure you they are quite dependable. I've seen a lot of happy customers. I've seen some unsatisfied ones as well, and most of them come from the poor RAM support, which has been fixed with newer BIOS updates. Ryzen is totally dependable, and I don't just say this out of thin air - any respectable and unbiased tech reviewer today would agree with me that there's no point in building an Intel system today except if you only use applications dependent on high single core performance, or if you just want the bragging rights.

#Shektron - very good suggestion, answered almost all my doubts. both you and #Supahos has changed my mind on AMD. i do mostly editing, motion graphics and video/photo editing with Adobe CS and LR and occassional Warcraft.. not much of a gamer. And yes r7 overshoots my budget, so is Ram above 2666+. I am thinking r5 with maybe 2400mhz Ram and msi b350(mentioned by you) and 2 tb HDD for now(no ssd). I alrdy have 24" screen. A normal 550watts psu. I think i can strech this much budget only for now..

Any one of them would smoke the i7, if you dont have the budget for 1700 then is ok for the 1600, also ram is important but i dont think they are so important in your work, ram plays an important role in gaming, tasks that are designed for cpu like me working in matlab with 30gb filles or rendering does not benefit for high frequency ram, tested by me (a 30gb matrix applied a regression algorithm took around 12 minutes no matter of ram, tested at 2133, 2400, 2666 and 2800, it did not matter in my case and i believe it is the same thing in rendering)

yes, i believe cpu plays an important role compared to ram speed in rendering, so also gpu supported softwares. And right now i have i dont have a video card(reply to Supahos). And i think am gona go and assemble my cpu... ;) Thanx for the help guys. Lastly, please mention a budget gpu which supports After effects Element 3D plugin. And also good for Blender software..

Another possibility would be to get an older generation used GPU like the GTX 750 Ti, since it is also present in that list - much less expensive than the 1060, and will still work just fine. There are cheaper and older ones as well, but I don't think those can be found easily, though a little bit of searching would probably give you some results.

Here's a really cheap option that'll still support the Element 3D plugin, according to that list:

Oh! before I forget, any recomendation on PSU? Ofcourse i chose 550watts, but I wonder on what factor the power depends so that i can make a better decision.
