Of course once I moved abroad and have nothing but my laptop with me I dropped my 2TB EHD. I know I know I should have it looked at by professionals. And I did I paid 25€ to run diagnostics on it only to tell me that they can recover my data, but I'll have to pay 200€ for 30-35GB I absolutely need from it. When I asked about the damage they told me that they don't know 'cos they would have to put it in the vacuum room to know what the deal is.

I don't have that kind of money. Not now and not for a long while. So I was wondering is there any way I can connect the EHD that might have a chance of my laptop recognizing it so that I can take as much of my data as possible?

The EHD is a WD Caviar green, it has a usb port and it's own power supply. I opened the case in hopes of a sata port to connect it to the esata in my laptop but it has an 8pin socket and the port where the bridge was on (usb and power supply). Here are some pics to help you guys with what's going with the ports/sockets etc 'cos I suck at terminology:

Those bronze pins were the ones that the bridge was on:

Can I use them to connect the EHD with the laptop?

How it was with the bridge on, you can also see the 8pin socket

When I connect the EHD with the power it seems to work, the light is blinking, the drives are turning (with no clicking or clanking or anything), to point also that the drives weren't turning before I send it for diagnostics, but it's not being recognized by neither my laptop nor my roommate's thus why I search other ways to connect it with my laptop.

Any ideas at all?

That's what I would have done if I was home at my desktop. Although I wonder if I have a sata port available. Anyways I won't be getting my desktop where I am any time soon, so I need to figure out what to do while abroad and only with a laptop with only an esata port available...

I wonder if maybe there's a sata data cable and sata power with an esata end or something?

Excellent, you think that it's more possible with that cable the laptop to be able to read the hard drive than it was with the usb?

Can't say for sure, Hdd might be damaged or the controller in the case with it might of been, worth a shot i reckon
Certainly cheaper to try before the data recovery fella's do
