I was thinking about getting a good pair of headphones and I'm looking at audio technica m50x because I want headphones that are good both for gaming and listening to music. I'm wondering if having that good headphones will be enough for great sound quality or I need to get external sound card too?

get a sound card if you are audiophile or doing some music work.
It will make a diffrence. else it isn't. Now inbuilt audio is getting pretty good too

My suggestion is to get the headphones see if you are happy with the sound. If not then look into an external DAC. Its very subjective as to what people will consider to be good sound. Ever since I got an external DAC I can't go back but many people think Bose systems sound good with the weak highs and one note lows.
