as the title follows, I'd like to know the best affordable i7 to pair with my gtx 1070 strix.
I dont wanna spend another 50€ for a potential 5 fps gain. My budget is 350€

It depends on what ram and motherboard you have. There are very few i7 models for each socket, usually a locked i7 like a 6700 and an unlocked slightly faster k version that has an unlocked multiplier that can be oc'd with a z series motherboard. So there's a 6700 and 6700k, 7700 and 7700k. You'll need to update a 100 series motherboard for use with a kaby lake cpu prior to using it so if going with a 7700 or 7700k then it's better to pick a 200 series motherboard. If looking to go with an older used i7 like a 4770, 4790 etc then it may be difficult sourcing an inexpensive motherboard for it. Older i7's use ddr3, newer 6th and 7th gen as well as ryzen use ddr4 since it's the new memory standard. Coffee lake will take a new motherboard socket and is supposed to be offering mainstream i7's and i5's as 6 core cpu's compared to the previous 4 core.

First of all, thanks for taking your time! Atm I am rocking an i5 4460 wich means my mobo should have an 1150 socket ?
I can get an i7 7700 for 250€ where I live (sweden) but that means Im gonna need to upgrade my mobo since the i7 uses an 1151 socket ? Im really not interested in wasting money on fancy design or whatever, can u recommend a good and afordable mobo for the i7 7700 ? I recon you know quite alot more than me haha :)

I live in sweden but I just translate crowns to euros to make it simple for everyone to understand. I can get an i7 7700 for 250€. Is that a good deal ? I dont mind upgrading mobo if you can recommend a good affordable one since I dont know a whole lot about mobos. Thanks in advance :)

Atm I've got a pretty shitty build.
Gtx 970 strix
I5 4460 with a stock cooler
16gb of whatever ram, unknown brand
250gb ssd samsung 850 evo
1tb hdd unknown brand
Evga supernova g2 650w psu
Unknown mobo and chassi
Think thats everything.
My plan is to upgrade to:
Gtx 1070 strix
I7 7700k
16gb 3000mhz ram
Msi z270a pro
Keep my psu,ssd and hdd
For cooler I dont know, some radiator
And a define r5 case

that's a decent build. Your PSU is fine. The upgrade is a decent one, although some would say you need to jump two tiers on the CPU, it's not hard and fast. The 7700k is a great gaming chip and offers the highest FPS. If you went with a Ryzen 1600/1700/x, you could get similar gaming performance with better performance in every other multicore test. You would save a few quid. Then you could get a GTX1080/ti, and have a much better experience, and more FPS to boot!

Looking towards the i7 7700k. Tbh I'm a bit scared when it comes to amd. Dont know a whole lot about them and Ive always gone with intel. However the ryzen is just 80 € cheaper so I wouldnt be able to get a 1080 anyways.Think its a bit overkill for me aswell, but thanks for your input!

If you just went with a used 4770K or 4790K then you could get a GTX 1080. The CPU pairs well with the card. I have a GTX 1080 ti with a 4770K. They're only about 10% slower than kaby lake/skylake so you wouldn't actually gain much by going with the newer CPU.

The absolute minimum I can find a 1080 for is 600€. The 1070 I can find for 350€ which I think is an awesome deal. Im gonna be playing on 144hz at 1080p
