Hit CTR ALT DELETE and open up the task manager and take a look at the items under Startup and see what you and stop from starting up when you boot. You will most likely find some unnecessary resource hungry programs in there that you can safely stop. Beyond that a SSD is the best best in terms of hardware solutions.
