Hi guys,

Look i know there probs a tone of this already, but id like to find out in regards to my own planned build. I plan on building a PC for mainly gaming use and maybe the occasional use for video rendering and stuff. But i dont really do any video stuff but would want to make sure that my cpu would still be okay for it if i ever did start doing that sort of stuff. (if ya know wat i mean) . I plan on using a GTX 1070.

So it comes down to my question should i get and Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel i7-7700K?

Any thoughts be appreciated.

Cheers.

Update* dont really intend on overclocking my cpu , not that wont but i just plan on playing fresh from the box .

Solution
You can get Ryzen 5 1600, but remember that the CPU may bottleneck at that high FPS, so you won't always be getting 144 FPS(but you won't get that with a 7700K either). With a 7700K, the FPS will be higher, but that does not mean you will get 144 FPS fixed still. Considering your needs and such, it's best you go for the Ryzen 5 1600, for reasons that have been repeated on multiple threads - better longevity, better value, better platform support, and comes with a great stock cooler.

gaming programmers and mobo manufactureres have barely caught up to ryzen, not to mention amd drivers. smh, intel i7 7700 is the most powerful gaming cpu hands down.

ah yeah can agree on that , and yeah from looking at gaming benchmarks the i7-7700K does take the lead in FPS .

All those siding with the 7700K, yes it's the current best, but not for long. Ryzen optimizations have already begun, and the difference between Ryzen and the 7700K is quite minimal, while the 7700K, along with its platform and cooler, will cost far more than the R5 1600. Is it really worth spending so much more for a difference of 6-15 FPS?Also, the 7700K won't last long in games, as games begin using more and more cores, while the 6 cores of the R5 will last far longer.

The 7700K is king, but its rule is ending. Deal with it already.

Yeah i agree . If i get the 7700K it will make my build pretty much on line of my budget , where as if i use the R5 1600 i will be comfy within budget. id be pretty happy with at least 60FPS and over so i guess its looking like its not worth the extra $

For 60 FPS, the 7700K is a fool's errand. Getting the 7700K only makes sense for greater than 144 FPS, nothing else. Even for that frequency, a good option would be waiting for Coffee Lake - it's a long wait, but might be worth it.

But for 60 FPS, the Ryzen 1600 is the deal of the hour.

yep looks like ill be going for the Ryzen 1600 :)

Discusses the ~20-60% framerate advantages of the 7700K at 1080P over a 1700, including one OC'd to 3.9 GHz...(the 1600 performs similarly in gaming, if not a tad less at times)

For a mostly gaming rig, I'd think it over carefully, but...good luck

We're talking a significant increase in ONE game for a total increase in price ranging from $150 to $250. Yes, Dota 2 really benefits, but out of all those benchmarks they have shown, this is the only one which has some significant difference, with the 7700k hitting 144 FPS and the Ryzen 7 not hitting 144 FPS. In most others the difference is either so small it won't be noticeable or it won't matter because both processors get over 144 FPS.

Seriously, it's not worth the extra money.

Not just a deal of the hour, but a deal that could last up to years! Ryzen 5 1600 is the most decent mid-range chipset at present.
