1. It's always a good idea to access the manufacturer's support site as freeprince as suggested in the event you haven't already done so. Also, many manufacturer's support "forums" that can provide relevant info & help re a particular product.

2. In addition, when you pose a problem like the one you have to this forum, you should also provide information at to what, if any, troubleshooting steps you've taken to diagnose & (hopefully) resolve the problem along these lines...

A. Is this a new problem? Did it just occur "out-of-the-blue"? Was the WD USBEHD working fine at a previous time? Or is it a brand-new device?

B. Have you tried connecting it to different USB ports on the laptop?

C. Tried a different USB cable, if available?

D. Tried connecting the device to another PC should one be available?

3. It's possible, of course, you may just be dealing with a defective unit - possibly the installed HDD. If the unit is new, perhaps it would be a good idea to be in touch with the vendor, or if still under a manufacturer's warranty to be in touch with the latter to determine if a RMA is in order.
