Hi! So, the HDD in my little brothers prebuilt pc has been acting up. Before it would sometimes corrupt random files saved on the harddrive, but now when you open something from the harddrive, opened program shows up in task manager but doesnt actually open. This pc is barely a year old so if the HDD really is about to be a goner, im baffled. Here are some of the pc specs I know just to throw them out there, also ill include screenshots of crystaldiskinfo.

CPU: i5 6600k
GPU: GTX 970
RAM: 8gb
Storage: 120gb ssd and 1tb hdd
PSU: 500w
MB: z170

I'm not actually sure what the brands are but here's also the link for the prebuilt: https://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c04818292

And here are the crystaldiskinfo screenshots;

Cheers for any info :)

EDIT for some reason the screenshots are not showing, here's the imgur link just incase

There is a pretty good chance that the HDD has problems, as those are three of the 5 key indicators (pending, reallocated, and uncorrectable) especially if the values are increasing.

To find the brand look under the device manager. Then download the HDD testing tool from the manufacturer web site and run it to know for sure. RMA if it fails and is still under warranty, which the drive should be if only a year old.

Alright, thanks for the quick replies! I'll contact the shop about the failing HDD and hopefully get it replaced. But since the pc is prebuilt, if we would have to send the whole pc I'll just buy him a new HDD no point sending out the whole pc just for HDD. Thanks again. :)

No doubt that it is bad, but most HDD manufacturers ask you if it failed their test software *if* you RMA the drive -- although I must admit that other than He8 drives I just toss most since they are so cheap now.

Fortunately, I've had only one failed He8 8TB drive out of many and that was DOA so likely shipping related.
