Cant mix n match modular psu cables?

So i had a modular Corsair and EVGA psu, and they cables from the corsair wouldnt not work on my evga

Was curious if this is the case?

They may be physically pinned differently, the ground and 5v could be switched. I thought the connector into the PSU would be shaped differently so that it would not physically fit. Interesting that you got it to fit and it did not work, but I am going to guess that it is the way it is wired.
