Switching to AMD - need graphics card advice

I'm considering switching from Nvidia to AMD to make use of Freesync. I don't have a whole lot of money left after building the new PC, so I'd be looking to just switch to an equivalent card.

What I've got at the moment is an MSI GTX 950 GAMING 2GB, and I was looking at the ASUS ROG RADEON RX 560 STRIX 4GB. As far as I can tell the Radeon is slightly better, but I've had some people telling me it's actually worse.

What's actually the difference in performance between them? (I just need to be sure the Radeon is at least as good as the GTX)

Solution
Unfortunately, AMD's graphics cards got hit the hardest by the cryptocurrency mining shortage, since they tend to be good for mining, and were likely available in lower quantities to begin with, so anything above the RX 560 has been kind of hard to come by at a reasonable price for the last couple months. Earlier this year, you could find some RX 470s priced not all that much higher than these cards, while providing significantly more performance, and even plenty of RX 480s could be found for under $200 USD.

Honestly, I would hold off for now, since the RX 560 is only comparable in performance to a GTX 950 or 1050. It might be a bit faster in some games, but will be a bit slower in others. I would consider it more of a side-grade...

Don't get the 560. At least get a 570 as the 560 sometimes even performes a bit worse than a 950 according to benchmarks.

Freesync is nice but not worth getting a new card for. Just wait until you have enough for the next step up. Also vega is launching soon and this can influence the market in a way that the lower end cards get left alone by miners and return to their normal prices.

Well, I will have a 144hz monitor and I'm aiming for higher frame rates, but it probably won't be above 144 FPS. Without Freesync I'd be stuck with V-Sync locking my FPS to 72.

The 570 is currently more than twice the price of the 560. You think the prices are likely to come down when the Vega releases?

Well freesync will help but not a lot. Logically prices should come down according to all the info we have already. Also the etherium market is getting to flooded and already had 2 spikes that made people sell their cards.

I would consider it more of a side-grade, and probably not worth getting just for Freesync. It would probably be better to wait a bit for graphics card prices to get more back to normal, which hopefully won't take too long.
