I need to separate devices to independent LANs in my home network. I would like to create VLANs on my router.
Tomato or DD-wrt supports VLANs functionality. But it is not enough. HW means routers should be capable of VLANs.
Can I create VLANs on Netgear R6400 with alternative firmware?
Thanks.

I am not able to test functionality of VLANs on R6400. I just considering to buy Netgear R6400.
It is important for me to have possibility separate network devices to different LANs.

I think in all cases you will need to load third party firmware to get vlan support on consumer routers. All the popular third party firmware supports vlans so mostly it is finding a router that can load third party firmware. If you want a simple one to use many asus routers can load the asus-merlin image. It is not as advanced as dd-wrt but is much simpler to use and supports vlans. Be somewhat careful though most but not all asus routers cn run the merlin image.

I think that Asus Merlin doesn't have GUI support for VLANs. I would also prefer Netgear R6400 due to affordable price for me. Just I am not able to found out if this HW support VLAN with third party firmware.
I will probably take a risk and will buy this router.
If it will not be working I will buy also switch. I have two LAN devices. I assume to have three isolated networks. First LAN device will be connected from router. Second LAN device will be connected from switch and other wireless WLAN devices will be connected from router. Or I will create more WLANs if needed.
