i just built my 1st gaming pc i have a gigabyte rx 460 2gb but its not working under display adapters it says microsoft basic display adapter instead of my gc i tried installing the drivers with the amd installer thing and ive tried different versions of it too but every time it either says amd hardware not detected or unsupported amd hardware HELP!!!!

Yes, you MUST connect graphic card to monitor, not motherboard to monitor 
I have a vga cable running from my motherboard to monitor instead of a dvi from my graphics card to my monitor is this why my graphics card isnt working?
