[SOLVED] Black screen or no signal after BIOS splash screen

Hey all,

I have had my PC for ~1 year and recently I have begun having an issue where the PC will intermittently boot windows to a black screen e.g I get the BIOS splash screen but after that there is just a black screen or "No Signal" on my monitor. Hard resetting the PC tends to fix the problem, but it can occur again afterwards. The Num-Lock and Caps-Lock keys don't light up the icons on my keyboard when the PC does this.

Specs:
CPU: Intel I7-6700k @ 4.00GHz
Mobo: Asus Maximus 8 Hero
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz
GPU: Asus Strix GTX 1080 a8g
PSU: Corsair HX850I
Storage: 120GB Kingston SSD (boot drive), 2TB Western Digital HDD (general storage)
OS: Windows 10 64bit

I can access the BIOS with no issues, it is only when it gets past the splash screen that the problem will happen.

I appreciate any help that you guys can give.

If anything is overclocked set it back to stock speeds. Test with one RAM stick at a time, remove the secondary hard drive and only use the boot drive. Test with another video card, something lower power is good to try.

Thanks, hang-the-9, I will try this, however it happens randomly e.g I'll be able to boot into windows most of the time, but then on one boot it will just go to the black screen, and after i hard reset it, it won't happen again for another few days, which makes it hard for me to test these solutions.

This EXACT same problem has been happening to me these past few weeks and conveniently I have similar specs and my PC is just about a year old. I've been trying to figure out what to do and so far you're the only person who I have found that has been having this problem. It doesn't happen all the time just at random and it's been driving me insane. I've tried running MemTest, checking for hard drive issues, updating the BIOS, updating Windows, deleting and reinstalling the GPU driver and still I can't seem to figure this out. If I figure anything out I'll definitely let you know but because it is completely random, I guess I'll have to see when it next happens again and eventually hopefully doesn't.

I came on the thread today to ask about the same thing as well, so I'll keep updated. It isn't every time, but its often enough that I find myself putting my laptop into sleep mode instead of shutting it off. This morning when this happened, and I hard-booted it to restart, it wanted to perform a disk check. I by-passed it for now. I have an alienware 17, gtx1070, i7, 16 gb ram, 128 nvme ssd (boot), 1tb 7200rpm hdd (storage), windows 10. The machine is only about 6 months old and actually still under warranty.

Thanks for the replies, just happened to me again, still have no clue what could be causing it. Seems like my restart button doesn't work when it goes like this, so i have to hold down the power button to completely power cycle the computer, is this the same with anyone else? Also it doesn't look like windows is booting up as if i try to unlock windows by typing in my password it doesn't seem to do anything, however when I next boot up windows there is an error 41 kernel power in the event viewer, is this the same for anyone else?

Edit: I have just been browsing through the event viewer and noticed that every night before i get this issue there has been an error "6008: The previous system shutdown at hh:mm:ss on ‎dd/‎mm/‎yyyy was unexpected." I don't know if this is related, but hopefully someone can give me some insight into this.

So after a lot of troubleshooting it seems that by turning off fast start-up in windows settings, I have got rid of the issue. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
