trying to open some steam games,it gives a black screen every time

for example, insurgency and Orion Prelude both do the same things
when I'm trying to open them I get a black screen and need to restart the pc in order for it to work once again I have my drivers up to date set the games to open in windowed but nothing seemed to have worked, my specs are: i3 4150 3.5ghz 6gb ram ddr3 gtx750ti and even tried launching the game directly from its destination

check settings, maybe something can be changed inside
" -width 1360 -height 768" in steam might help,
if not try legacy modes or nvidia forcing settings

Does it really lock it up? When I load L4D2 it gives me a black screen, but I'm not locked up. If I wanted to I can alt-tab out. I've discovered if I hit enter it will then load the game. I have multiple monitors so probably related to that. I also get an issue when I go to play Blur sometimes. I haven't found a fix for that other than finally rebooting. I'm one of those people who leave their PC running without rebooting. Blur is the only thing that seems to not like that. If I reboot, the game will then load. I'm just wondering if you are really locked up or not.

As long as some games work you know it's not a hardware issue. Because it's two games I'm inclined to think it's a software issue. The only software issue I had was with Doom 3 BFG edition. Seems my AMD driver would let me load the game and select single player, but it wouldn't load the game. Would lock up DOOM 3 as soon as it tried to load. (Just the game, I could alt-tab out and close it.) The previous driver didn't have this issue so everyone just rolled back. If you've done the obvious virus and temp checks, you need to look on the Steam forums for the effected games and look for a solution. If one exists.
