Hi all,

Let me start off with my specs:
CPU: i5 4670k
Cooler: Custom Watercooling Kit
Mobo: Z87-G41 PCMate
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3-1866 2x4 (x2)
SSD: Sandisk SSD PLUS 480GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
GPU: MSI RX 480 GAMING X 8GB
PSU: Some 8+ year old 750W Seasonic thing-y (probably a source of the problems)

Recently I have been having troubles with my pc, and I have tried almost everything that I am able to do to try and fix these issues. First, I would get blue screens with the error code: Memory_Management, (caused by ntoskrnl.exe) so I tested all the RAM and it works fine. I took off my overclock and it still continues. I even resorted to using Microsoft Support and had them remotely control my PC, and nothing worked.

Another issue is it will randomly freeze and stay frozen while multi-tasking. When that happens I just hard shut it down and boot back up again. I have no idea why it might do this. I have been trying to see what causes crashes and it seems to only happen in high computer usage situations, such as gaming, opening chrome, and recording. I am unable to record with MSI Afterburner which is odd. I can start it but when I try to stop it, it just freezes.

Sadly, yesterday... we lost her. The computer will not load into windows anymore. Yesterday night I was not doing anything intensive, just talking to a friend on discord when the display blinked on and off for a few seconds, then the computer shut off for about half a second and turned back on. Upon it turning back on I noticed that the fans were not being very loud for a few minutes of me just leaving it there. It seemed like some sort of power surge in the computer.

Here's what I did to try and troubleshoot. (I couldn't do much, because I cant get onto the computer). I turned it off and on only to be greeted with the windows logo as it boots and then just the spinning dots forever. So, I decided well maybe the graphics card is being funny, so I plugged the HDMI into the motherboard instead, and absolutely nothing happens. Nothing is detected and the display shows nothing.

So, I have concluded that there can only be a few parts potentially defective. The CPU, PSU, RAM, or Motherboard. I have stress tested the CPU countless times and nothing ever happens. The RAM was all swapped out and tested, once again, nothing wrong. Motherboard has no swollen capacitors and seems to be in good condition. The PSU however, is very old, I think it is possibly what lead to all of this. I think something went wrong with it yesterday and caused it to short and kill other components. I have no idea how to test a psu for faults, so help with that would be appreciated.

The two components I suspect to be damaged or broken are the CPU or PSU. For school, a few months back I did a project on how liquid cooling effects on a computer. Now, back then I had an 800mhz overclock on it. I was testing with an AIO, my custom loop, and the intel stock cooler. Upon testing the cpu broke 100 degrees multiple times while benchmarking witht he stock cooler. Then I started having issues. Back then, it was once every few months or so, and it was just getting progressively worse. I think I may have damaged it somehow, but once again I cannot test it/don't know how. The PSU is just old, so I think it's time for a new one...

I am going to bring it in to NCIX this week to get them to swap out parts and see what is defective.

Nothing is overheating in in the system the CPU is always under 50 degrees even under max load, and GPU rarely breaks 80.

If anyone has had an issue like this or knows anything about how to help it is greatly appreciated!

Solution
1) Test the PSU with paper clip method like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWXgQSokF4
2) After done the test, take out the rx 480, the RAM, HDD, and the SSD ( you can just disconnect the cables), install the PSU, boot the PC without rx480, any RAM, and the HDD/SSD, use onboard intel iGPU.

Now you will
1) The PC will boot, but you will get no RAM no boot device error. And you will know the CPU/MB are fine, then add the components one by one back. In this way you will find which part has problem.
2) The PC will not boot, that menas either the CPU or MB has problem.

Solution
The Psu is working(delivering power) so the paperclip test is pointless. There is power coming to your components. It might not be in the best conditions but it is delivering power.
And I wouldnt say your CPU is in perfect shape, but it is working or your computer simply wouldnt Post.
Anyway you are also missing a possible culprit: your Hdd/SSD used as System Drive.
You Pc posts, meaning that your base components seem to be working. But your Windows doesnt load.
Did you tried something as simple as reinstalling windows? If it doesnt work, try installing on the other drive.
Can also either be a dying drive or a corrupted OS.

Last night, I tested the PSU with the paperclip method and nothing is wrong with it from what I have seen. All of the voltages are within tolerable amounts and it is functioning properly. [strike]I'm taking it to NCIX today to swap out parts and see if any are defective. I will link them this post and what you have said, thanks for your help.[/strike] Nevermind, it seems simple enough, I'll just take it and test it at home. Thanks for your help.

I'll test this at home tonight as well I suppose. I have an SSD (Very new and is boot drive) and HDD (HDD used to have windows and was boot drive), I have unplugged the HDD as well now and it still didn't change anything? I have done many tests on my SSD and it passes with flying colours, I don't really think it is the issue.

One thing I forgot to mention was when tinkering with it and trying different ways to boot and what-not, I noticed that the BIOS isn't popping up anymore and I never see the screen. The only thing that shows is the windows logo for a second and then nothing or the spinning dots. I would guess this means the motherboard is dead...

If it shows the windows logo, it means that it is able to Post. I seriously doubt it is the Mb although I cant be 100% shure.
Try reinstalling windows just to make shure.. Your SSD can be in good health while your windows can be corrupted.
I would give it a shot nonetheless.

Well, I called NCIX, and from what I described to them on the phone they said that the CPU or Mobo is fried. Possibly both. Thanks for all the help guys, I'll tell you what happens after I try what Cin19 said. Otherwise, I guess I will reinstall windows. I really don't think that's the issue though.

Sadly it doesnt boot. Looks like I am going to get some new parts. Possibly entire PC upgrade. Thanks everyone!
