so i'm looking to put a RX 550 in an old lenovo thinkcentre e73. The specifications say it's x16 slot has a 60w max. Can i just upgrade the psu and run power direct from the psu to the gpu and ignore the motherboard wattage max?

A computer will only function optimally when you've conformed to all the minimum requirements. To begin with the lack of the PCI-e slots power deliver is probably one way for Lenovo to limit the ability of an end user to tinker with the system. What's stopping you from buying a previous generation GPU?

Is it possible to state the make and model of your Lenovo prebuilt system? It's quite possible that the lack of a UEFI BIOS environment will render your GPU upgrade useless and the PSU might not be able to power your entire system.

the exact model is Lenovo thinkcentre e73 10AS002JUS. i know that the psu can't handle a new card, but i was planning on replacing that too. i have no way of checking on the uefi enviroment though.

Hi everyone,
I bought used Lenovo ThinkCenter machine with m72e MB. My initial plan was to upgrade it with MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti DirectX 12 GTX 1050 TI 4GT LP 4GB.
Unfortunately, according to the manual PCI e x16 slot has a 60w max. Should I buy other GPU with additional power supply? Would appreciate any suggestion
