I have one stick of XPG ADATA 8GB 1600MHz. I wanted to upgrade to 16GB of RAM. I purchased the Patriot Viper 3 Series, at 1600MHz. Will I be able to utilize all 16GB even if it isnt in dual-channel? (Voltage and timings are the same on both brands BTW.) Thanks in advance.

Solution
IF it even works ya you should be able to use 16GB but that if is big. Not to mention you'll likely run in mixed mode which usually means you memory speed drops a fairly. For you I'd be surprised if you could still do DDR3 1600...likely it will be DDR3 1333 or DDR3 1066 depending on your system specs.

It's bad practice to mix two sticks of ram or two brands of ram or even two different kits altogether. Think of ram upgrades to be like buying a pair of shoes after you lost one out of that pair. The salesman will only allow you to buy a pair instead of one out of a pair.

If you must go for a 16GB upgrade, make sure you go for 4x4GB kit or if your board supports it, going for a 2x8GB kit. Speaking of board's supporting it, Mind sharing your full system's specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis::
OS:

Even though you can't use them together, for the sake of relevance, can you pass on a link to both varying ram ktis?
