Could i replace a 5400rpm drive with a 7200rpm in a hp pavilion laptop with i7 7thgen processor or should replace it by ssd

Yes you can but the increased RPM f the HDD would mean more power draw and ofc more heat dump which leads me to ask you if you think the airflow/ventilation inside the laptop isn't questionable...? Why not just get an SSD? They consume less power, offer a lot less heat dump and speed up overall boot and application up times. They might cost more but the reduced weight is also a bonus if you travel with your laptop a lot.

I'd suggest getting an SK Hynix SL308 series of SSD's if you think Samsung's 850 range are expensive.
