Internet cutting in and out every few seconds

Hey so I just moved and got my stuff installed today. Everything seemed to be working fine, I'm able to browse normally, videos buffer fine, etc. but when I tried connecting to mumble (voice program) and play online video games, I noticed my internet is actually cutting out every few seconds for about 5-10 seconds each time. For example my mumble will constantly get disconnected and reconnected and I'll have freeze times of around 5 seconds in my game at the same time.

I'm plugged directly into my modem with an ethernet cable and have done speedtest multiple times without any problems. My ping is good and my speed is actually better than advertised by my plan (I'm paying for 75/10 and am getting more like 85/12). I tried restarting the modem multiple times and restarting the computer but nothing has worked. I'm on Xfinity if that helps at all. I've looked up similar problems and no solutions seem to be working so I decided to try making my own post.

Thanks for any help I can get.

If it is a cable connection get into the modem and see the signal levels. There are sites that show what the recommended levels are...the actual values depend a bit on thing like number of channels so I will not cut and paste the tables here.

Your best bet is to leave a constant ping run to 8.8.8.8 and see if that also show packet loss or huge spikes in latency. This can indicate a issue with your internet connection. There is a tiny chance it is your router/modem but it is unlikely.
