So I just picked up the Ryzen 5 1600x and set up an overclock
-Ryzen 5 1600x
- MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard
-40.00 cpu freq
-cpu voltage set to auto (whenever I set a custom voltage the cpu frequency dropped to 2Ghz when i boot, but is at 4Ghz when voltage is at auto, but this isnt my issue, I think)
-3200 ddr4 memory overclocked to 2667 (apparently Ryzen or my board doesn't like memory frequency above 2667)
-Corsair H100i AIO watercooler
-Custom desk build case with plenty of fans, 3 intake fans plus 4 intake fans on the AIO radiator, and 4 exhaust fans (overkill I know, but I built the desk with a large open area for the components and want plenty of airflow)
So I got my OC to where it would boot. I ran a quick Cinebench R15 test ( 1191 baseline, 1307 after OC). I then fired up AIDA64 for a stress test. I ran it for 50 minutes before shutting it down because my mainboard was reading 91c and I started to get a bit nervous about letting it go for a few more hours to confirm my OC is stable. According to AIDA64 my CPU was at 86c and motherboard at 91c. According to CPU Z my CPU was at 66c (I guess Ryzen still has the 20c offset on AIDA64) and mainboard temp at 91c. After sropping the test my CPU went back to 36c and main board went down to 41c in a minute or two.
My questions are:
- can I safely let my motherboard run at 91c for 4-9 hours for a stress test (I should only hit that temp during a test, mostly my pc is used for gaming, and it is never used for rendering or video editing)
- should I scale back the over clock even though my CPU was well within a safe range
-can hope that I'm stable and keep the OC at 4Ghz and watch my board and CPU temps during use and scale back the OC if I have a crash
