Are these bundles thoughtfully paired together? Or flung together as a push to move inventory?

Is PCPartPicker vastly superior in terms of locating good value? Or should I consider these bundles a potential avenue to building a pc?

Thanks!

I think it's very hit or miss. I've built several systems in the last 5 years and was never able to find a bundle that had what I was looking for. If you find one, I think it might be possible to get a good deal. It depends on how you buy your components though. If you buy over several weeks, maybe even months, collecting your items as they go on sale, then you'll probably beat the bundle's price without a problem. If you buy all the components in one sitting, then I think a bundle might make more sense.

that may not be 100% true. i have bought many of these bundles when they are worth it.

about 2 months ago i bought a cpu/mobo/ram combo that made the ram free with an extra $10 savings. partpicker will pick up sales but i am not sure you can find the same 3 parts for that same cost spread around various sites.

while not every combo is a good buy, if you do your homework, you may find a really good deal or 2 here and there. check partpicker for the same pieces and see if they find it any cheaper in their database. i see deals maybe once a month worth getting that way.

microcenter though has probably the best cpu/mobo combos i have seen anywhere. they are always in store buys but if you happen to be near one of those, they offer some awesome combo prices. often the mobo ends up almost free or even totally free.

Mathe Geek, I agree with you. One of the things I did was put my build into PcPartspicker, and then look at who had the best deal(obviously). But if Newegg was close or best price on 2 items, I'd then go look at those 2 items and see if there was a bundle that contained them both. I never could find what I wanted, but I know you could save money, if you did find those 2 items in a bundle.

i buy and build a lot of pc's for clients so i have to do my homework for best prices. bundles help, sales help obviously as do clearance sales. i buy what i find that's a good deal whenever i find it. psu's often go on crazy sales with mega rebates. i grab all i can when they do. i know i will always need psu's so sitting on a dozen for a while does not hurt me at all.

but you got to do your homework. a "sale" on one site may be normal price on another. amazon is good about jacking the price up on an item and then putting it "on sale" the next day. partpicker is a very valuable resource for seeing the great buys and the not so great ones. i have a couple friends who live by microcenters. when i see great combos there i have them pick them up in store for me. staying stocked up on pieces i can often make high quality pc's for folks at decent savings. can't touch bulk buuyers prices but i can usually keep it $50-100 below current prices using stockpiled items :)
