I'm planning to use Steam's home streaming on my TV using a laptop but at the moment I just have a 2.4Ghz router as an available connection.

A wired connection would be perfect but the current infrastructure to place it would be a mess.

I'm trying to choose one of the both options below:

  • a) buy a 5ghz wifi router, I was thinking about the Google's Wifi to increase the bandwidth reaching out to the TV
    b) using a powerline and place a network cable near the TV, not sure if a PDU would reduce the available bandwidth though.

what would be the best option for a high quality streaming with the lowest latency possible?

Solution
Powerline adapters need to be plugged directly into the MAINS and not a power strip. Usually power strips have surge protection and noise filtering that interfere with powerline network adapters.
The powerline units should easily handle even 4k streams. You want to buy the newest av2 models they work much better.

WiFi is hit and miss and depends on your house and how many of your neighbors are using wifi. There is no way to predict how well it works. The 5g band will actually have less range in most houses because the frequency is absorbed more easily
