Hi guys,

I have one of those TP LINK routers. About a week ago the internet connection from that router went dud, even though other routers in my house are functional.

I concluded this might be a problem with the RJ45 plug head, or the ethernet cable itself.
Being the more convenient measure, I replaced the RJ45 cable, following wikihow steps. It was my first time, and took me 3 tries.
The said router is now working again, but as the title says, the connection is notably slower and more unstable.
1. Where before I can stream youtube at 720p no problem, it now lags even at 240p.
2. when downloading attachments, I noticed that the download speed rate fluctuates wildly, from say 1mbps +/- 100kbps before, to 20kpbs~1mbps.

Any idea what's wrong? Please advise.

No particular modal of tester. I just just a general name brand one.

And yes. Back in the day Type A was common for residential and Type B was common for business. However, that is no longer the case and everyone uses Type B by default now.

If you can't use a premade. Then for sure test your cable to make sure there is no issues!
Are you saying you replaced the rj45 end of the cable or the wallplate box?

For new users. I wouldn't recommend their first rj45 end replacement to be done on a production network and you always should have a cable tester on hand to test the cable once you are done putting it back together.

I would recommend you use a premade cable instead.

Also for rj45 connectors. There is a Type A and Type B. What pin down type did you use?

I replaced only the end thats connected to my router, not the modem downstairs.

I would have replaced the cable with a new premade, but it goes thru the walls down to the first floor, so it would be too difficult and time consuming.

Gotcha, cable tester. Didn't get one of those yet. Any particular model/specification i should get?

Didn't even know theres type A/B. I only copied the wiring order from the old head. It should be B. It alternates on the green/blue wires.
